Scent & Cinema: The Signature Fragrance of Abroad—A Thrilling Mashup of Film & Fragrance

What if a movie had a signature scent? And what if a character did too?

Mashing together my love for film and fragrance, I took on the challenge of assigning a scent to Abroad, the thriller I had the pleasure of acting in. Given the film’s North Shore setting—sweeping vistas, dense pine forests, and a hint of mystery—I landed on Cape Heartache by Imaginary Authors. Designed by Josh Meyer, this scent captures the cool, resinous feel of fir trees and pine sap while weaving in an unexpected note of strawberry. A perfect nod to Abroad’s moody landscape and the K-Pop influence of Taemin’s WANT, which features prominently in the film.

And for my character? A mysterious, aggressive figure known only as “Man,” I went with the bold, unforgettable Dior Fahrenheit. With its gasoline, violet, and leather notes, it’s loud, in-your-face, and impossible to ignore—just like him.
